From Bondage to Business: Lazar's Journey to Self-Dependency

In the heart of Gulmunda village, nestled deep within the Ramanaguda block of Rayagada district, Majhi Limma's story unfolds, weaving a tale of liberation and empowerment amidst the shadows of poverty and exploitation. Gulmunda, with its 80 families, was a place where social evils like superstition, caste discrimination, and poverty reigned supreme. For many like Majhi, slavery was not just a word from history books but a harsh reality of daily life. Forced to toil under the yoke of high-caste moneylenders, their dreams remained shackled by the burden of debt. Amidst this despair, a glimmer of hope emerged in the form of the LOGOS organization. With their intervention, the villagers began to break free from the chains of bondage. They turned to small-scale entrepreneurial ventures like goat and cow businesses, grocery stores, and even ventured into agriculture, reclaiming their agency and dignity. Lazar Limma's transformation epitomized the village's journey towards self-dependency. Once trapped in a cycle of alcoholism and servitude, Lazar found redemption through faith and determination. With a wife, Jyoti, and three children, their struggles mirrored those of many in Gulmunda.
In 1991, Majhi Limma and his whole family accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior. Soon after, he changed his name from Majhi Limma to Lazar Limma. Seeking a means to secure his family's livelihood, Lazar wanted to start an income generation activity (IGA). However, due to a lack of funds, he was unable to initiate his business. In the same year, the LOGOS organization provided financial support amounting to Rs. 120,000 to help him start his venture. Lazar immediately began a cloth business in his village, which enabled him to support his two sons, Alok and Amosh, in their higher education and take care of his elderly parents. His living conditions improved significantly, and he was able to address his family's needs. This newfound strength propelled Lazar towards a path of self-improvement and resilience. With the support of the LOGOS organization, Lazar ventured into the world of entrepreneurship. He established a cloth business, leveraging his newfound skills and knowledge to carve a niche for himself in the local market. Additionally, he took up construction work, eventually becoming a respected government contractor. The once destitute Lazar now stood tall, a beacon of hope for his family and the entire village. His cloth store not only symbolized his economic independence but also served as a testament to his unwavering spirit and determination.
As Lazar looked back on his journey, he saw not just personal triumph but also a collective victory for Gulmunda. Together, they had overcome the shackles of slavery and poverty, paving the way for a brighter future filled with opportunities and prosperity. Today, Lazar Limma's story continues to inspire generations, reminding them that even in the darkest of times, the human spirit can soar to unimaginable heights. With full gratitude, he and his family say, "It would not have been possible to transform our family life if the LOGOS organization had not supported us."
